Professor Adam Kirrander is Professor of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at Oxford, working at the cutting edge of ultrafast imaging, quantum dynamics, and photochemistry. His group develops advanced theoretical and computational methods that interpret experiments from new light and particle sources (e.g. XFELs, ultrafast electron pulses) and considers the "physics of the probe" to enhance resolution. They use simulations to visualise transient electronic and structural changes in molecules during photoexcitation and chemical reactions, often tightly linked to collaborative experiments worldwide. His recent work includes mapping ultrafast electronic relaxation pathways in molecular photoswitches using XFEL and computational modelling.
